Australia Day should remain on the 26th of January

After decades of protesting against Australia Day on the 26th of January, what have they achieved?

Nothing, other than creating division and sucking the joy into a vacuum vortex from which it never escapes. The majority still wants it on the 26th – and the word ‘majority’ is the key here.

A percentage of the 3.2% of the population that is Aboriginal, accompanied by their Woke Warrior wannabes in between Climate Change, Ukraine and Palestinian protests, don’t want it.

A poll this week shows only 10% of the Australian Population want the date changed from the 26th or 90% want Australia Day on the 26th of January.

A special Roy Morgan SMS Poll on Australia Day, January 26, shows 72% of Australians now say the date should stay as ‘Australia Day’ – up 3.5% from two years ago. Only 28% (down 3.5%) say January 26 should be called ‘Invasion Day’.

The definition of a (small ‘l’) liberal democracy is that it governs to the will of the majority whilst protesting the rights and interests of minorities.

This gives them the freedom to demonstrate. It does not give them the freedom to change anything other than their vote to achieve their ends. You don’t see protests like these in remote areas.

Support for saying January 26 should be known as ‘Australia Day’ by age:

  • 18-34: 72% (up 16% since 2024) ‘Australia Day’ cf. 28% (down 16%) ‘Invasion Day’;
  • 35-49: 69% (up 5.5%) ‘Australia Day’ cf. 31% (down 5.5%) ‘Invasion Day’;
  • 50-64: 72% (down 6.5%) ‘Australia Day’ cf. 28% (up 6.5%) ‘Invasion Day’;
  • 65+: 74.5% (down 8%) ‘Australia Day’ cf. 25.5% (up 8%) ‘Invasion Day’.

The reason is simple: it’s not important to those in far-fetched towns and communities. They have far greater and far more genuine concerns than a date.

Australia needs to come together as one on Australia Day like it always has and celebrate the amazing diversity and acknowledge the wonderful place in which we live together.
