In a month of derailments (previously an SCT train derailed at Newport), and a recent derailment in the north of Melbourne at Jacana, the latest incident on the interstate rail network has just happened at Cressy.
A goods train operated by SCT travelling from Perth to Melbourne (Laverton Terminal) has collided with a vehicle at a level crossing near Cressy west of Geelong. From the attached photos it would appear the ute has driven directly into the train at the unprotected crossing. Locomotive SCT015 was on the head of the train with SCT009 the second unit.
Reports are both occupants of the utility vehicle were killed in the crash.
Presumably freight services will be delayed once again. The Overland between Adelaide and Melbourne does not run on a Tuesday.

Unprotected crossings exist all across this large landscape and meaning extreme care must be taken when vehicles wish to cross the tracks.
That is awful should take more care at crossings especially as a local.
