On December 14, 2025, during a Hanukkah celebration, 43-year-old Ahmed Al-Ahmed charged an antisemitic gunman from behind, wrestling away his weapon and likely saving many lives amid the attack that killed 15, including a 10-year-old girl.
Arriving in New York for advanced medical care, Al-Ahmed called Trump ‘a hero of the world’ and a ‘strong man’ when asked about meeting him, a clip that spread quickly online.
He received bipartisan honors, visiting a Jewish gravesite in a kippah, attending a gala thanked by Bill Ackman, meeting Senators McCormick and Fetterman, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, with praise from Australia’s U.S. ambassador Kevin Rudd.
