On March 2, 1969, history was made as Concorde flew for the first time. In 1976, the aircraft entered service, and the type flew until 2003 when it was retired without replacement. Like the Airbus A380, Concorde was an engineering marvel, but also, like the A380, it was built on the wrong assumption about the future of commercial aviation.
