Albanese Launches Review into Bondi Beach Terror Attack as Victims’ Families Push for Royal Commission

On December 14, 2025, two gunmen carried out an ISIS-inspired antisemitic attack on a Hanukkah event near Bondi Beach, killing 15 mostly Jewish Australians; police killed one attacker on site and charged the other with terrorism.

Families of 11 victims wrote an open letter on December 28 demanding a full Royal Commission to probe ignored warnings and unchecked antisemitism, gaining support from figures like former AFP commissioner Mick Keelty and ex-treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

Albanese responded by releasing terms for an independent review led by ex-ASIO head Dennis Richardson, which started December 21 and will assess agency effectiveness, prior knowledge of the attackers, and law gaps, with reports due in February and late April.
