The rail industry is lucky enough to include thousands of staff who’ve served faithfully throughout their entire working lives. Many of those now reaching retirement age can boast decades of dedication and it’s not unheard of for employees to leave with 50 years or more under their belt.
The Lifetime Achievement Award honours those who’ve devoted their lives to the rail industry, leaving a lasting impact through their contributions. Whether that’s through pioneering projects, critical safety improvements, or by helping to shape the industry’s future, winners of the award embody excellence, dedication, and service.
After many years of supporting the RailStaff Awards, Freightliner CEO Tim Shoveller was awarded with one of his own, taking home the Lifetime Achievement Award on 27 November.
Tim’s 30-year railway career has shaped the industry’s evolution from operations to leadership. Rising from trainee guard at Guildford to CEO of Freightliner, he has championed innovation, integration, and collaboration across passenger and freight sectors.
His work in developing new freight services and supporting the Railway Benefit Fund reflect a lifelong commitment to progress and community. Tim’s inclusive leadership style continues to inspire colleagues, strengthen teams, and drive lasting change across the railway.
“This is a huge honour,” he said. “When you look at the achievements of all the other finalists here tonight, to be recognised by the panel of judges is just superb.”
