Melbourne Metro Tunnel Opens Sunday After Decade-Long Build

The 9km twin tunnels connect the Sunbury line in the west to Cranbourne and Pakenham lines in the southeast, bypassing the busy City Loop with five new stations at Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall, and Anzac.

These stops bring easier access to universities, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and job centers along St Kilda Road. Services start Sunday under a limited schedule, with free weekend public transport through January and full peak-hour trains every three to four minutes from February 2026.

New station masters Chris, Khon, Ajit, Eva, and Kasturi stand ready to guide the crowds.
