In an October podcast interview, Australian billionaire James Packer accused Daniel Andrews of ruining Victoria’s finances and nearly wrecking his own life through a last-minute 2022 tax change on Crown Resorts that cost $50 million.
The grudge stems from their past friendship and Crown’s earlier scandals, including a 2021 royal commission that exposed money laundering risks and forced Packer to sell his stake amid hefty fines.
Packer also criticised gambling regulators and Victoria’s rising $170 billion debt under Andrews’ nine-year tenure, challenging the ex-premier to sue him.
