Newcastle welcomes first year-round international flights

The industrial action, including a stand-by ban, covers both the flights Finnair operates for Qantas from Sydney to Singapore and Bangkok, as well as flights used by pilots to transfer to those flights.

Flown by the Boeing 707 “V-jet” VH-EBL, the hop from Sydney to Christchurch on 10 April, 1965, was the first ever commercial flight across the Tasman with a jet aircraft.
