The Australian Newspaper has just completed a comparison of Metro Systems between Melbourne and Sydney. One stark statistic clearly not defendable is the extraordinary price per kilometre built between the two capital cities. How could it possibly be that Victoria is 3 times more expensive than Western Australia or NSW?

The cost of works in Victoria is 3 times that of NSW where the CFMEU does not have a strangle hold on construction projects. There are two ways to consider this, the first being the price tag for the metro builds should be a 3rd of what it is in Victoria or alternatively we should be getting 3 times the network length we are for the same price.
The same could be said about the boondoggle being the level crossing removal programme in Victoria. A great example of this shockingly managed project is the Melton Level Crossing Removal Project a poorly designed, unnecessary boondoggle.
By comparison the London Underground is a much larger system to manage but the system is not all underground.

Let’s also remember Jacinta Allan’s husband is a former CFMEU official.
It’s a bit disingenuous to say that Melbourne’s “metro” is only 9km when Dandenong – West Footscray will be operating as a metro like service, not just the tunnel. The $13.5 billion includes signalling and network upgrades across over 100km of track.
Typical whinge from the anonymous author.
Why is the Melton station project a ‘boondoggle’? Do you actually know what a boondoggle is or is it a word you recently discovered and you like the sound of it when you say it?
Mike, calling people or authors you don’t agree with “Whingers” becomes very dull and childish….
Why don’t you grow up and act your age for once on a public forum?
Why are you so bitter? did the author hit a nerve? Or do you have guilty concious to keep posting in such hostile manner, not one post to be happy of other’s articles….I hope don’t call your own employers whinger for every decision or reasoning for the change of anything you don’t agree with!!!
You won’t last long with that attitude !
Hello Mike,
How nice to see such a positive comment from you, let me explain why I believe it is a boondoggle. First lets look at what a boondoggle is.
“spend money or time on unnecessary, wasteful, or fraudulent projects.”
The melton Level crossing removal is a massive design completely unnecessary and without grounding. All that was required at Melton were two road under rail bridges, simple. No station rebuild, no elevated rail ensuring no additional tracks or sidings could be installed and no need for a wasteful $850M in cost.
Boondoggle for the CFMEU.
