Major construction on the first new Melbourne CBD train station in more than 40 years is finally finished. This is a great addition to the Melbourne rail network but more trains are needed. We need more lines connecting the city to our suburbs and we need them now.
The project created a direct, underground connection into Flinders Street Station by extending the Degraves Street Subway – so you won’t even need to touch off to change between Metro Tunnel and City Loop trains.
This means we’re another step closer to opening the Metro Tunnel later this year, cutting congestion and getting you to work, uni and home sooner.
Train drivers were stranded in Melbourne’s new Metro Tunnel for almost five hours when a systems fault brought trains to a standstill during test operations last month.
