On October 3, 2025, Hamas announced its agreement to release all remaining Israeli hostages, alive and dead, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, while endorsing negotiations on U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace proposal for Gaza.
The group also committed to transferring Gaza’s administration to a technocratic Palestinian body, conditional on Israeli withdrawal and cessation of hostilities.
Trump described the response as a breakthrough and called for Israel to halt bombing in Gaza to facilitate safe hostage extraction, though Israeli officials expressed doubts about Hamas’s conditions amid the ongoing war that began with the October 7, 2023, attack.
