Douglas Aircraft Corporation introduced the DC-9 in the 1960s. Following the companys merger with the McDonnell Aircraft Company, the DC-9 was developed into MD-80, MD-90, and MD-95. In 1997, Boeing acquired McDonnell Douglas, and the MD-95 was designed and marketed as the Boeing 717.
