Premier Jacinta Allan has scored boring machines from China to tunnel out Melbourne’s SRL, boasting companies in a country with “rail loops everywhere” is investing in her pet project.
I don’t understand the issue with building much needed rail infrastructure and the need to keep defending this project. It is a must have for Melbourne less so for Victoria. Whilst you are there Jacinta Allan, please ensure you raise enough money to complete the project entirely and hand over the reins to the Chinese for the design as Victoria does not have a clue how to build rail services anymore. The Chinese are highly skilled at this and the best in the business I believe.
Public polling rates the project higher than the roads projects we are investment $billions more in to only cause serious congestion. Metro rail is the only way forward for Melbourne, as has been the case for other international cities such as ours.
Lets also look at how the chinese or the Japanese can build a much needed fast rail service between Melbourne and Sydney via Canberra. Give them the contract and get it moving.
The federal government hvae not provided support for the project so get the money from elsewhere. I have no problem with this at all. Melbourne is growing faster than anywhere else in Australia and we need infrastructure.
Oh okay…..let if the quality control is very rigorous in this case……

The steel used in the road projects in Victoria is not australian all imported from China. Cheaper chinese steel whilst Victroria steel companies go under. I have often wondered if this was a deal done to ensure financing of some of this work?
Just borrow the whole amount for the project and build all of it as the city needs more infrastructure.
