U Mobile taps Sacofa to provide fibre backhaul for 5G in Sarawak

Malaysian telco YTL Communications launched a fully operational multi-operator core network (MOCN) 4G base station site in Penang on Tuesday as part of Malaysian government initiatives to share infrastructure and provide 100% mobile coverage of roads.

As well as providing a showcase for new products and services, Mobile World Congress is an occasion for industry bodies to gather and review ongoing work designed to set new benchmarks and establish the future direction of key enabling technologies.

Indian telco Vodafone Idea revealed on Wednesday that it has been working with Samsung to trial new technologies, including virtualised RAN (vRAN) solutions, in Chennai for its 4G and 5G network.
