The Boeing 777, perhaps one of the most popular widebody aircraft ever built, has a unique feature missing when compared to other aircraft, which is the absence of winglets. The 777 was designed without winglets because it has specially designed raked wingtips, which offer similar benefits in aerodynamics, while also being able to avoid additional weight and increased wingspan. Winglets are typically vertical or angled extensions at the tip of an aircraft’s wings, whereas a raked wingtip sees the end of the wing arch backwards at a greater degree.
