The C-5 Galaxy was designed and built by Lockheed for the United States Air Force. At certain periods in the program, Lockheed had planned to develop the massive transport aircraft into a cargo variant and a passenger variant. It also wanted to update the aircraft and sell more of them to the Air Force, but ended up losing to the smaller McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) C-17 Globemaster III.
