Why does Australia still have a luxury car tax?

Australia still has a “luxury car tax”. A 33% tariff designed to protect Holden, Ford, and Toyota… brands that haven’t built a car here since 2017.

It kicks in at $80.5k, and for every dollar over, the government takes a massive 33%.

No Senate approval was ever given for the hike from 25% to 33% back in 2008!

Last year it made Canberra $1.25 billion. By 2029, they’re expecting $1.4 billion.

“Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program.” – Milton Friedman –
