Every year, the FAA is responsible for around a billion people flying over US airspace. Over the years, improved airport security systems and practices have made flying incredibly safe. Airport security is a vital part of ensuring tragedies like 9/11 never happen again. But there are always a few who attempt to get around the system. CBS News reported that in 2023, hundreds of passengers circumvented or attempted to circumvent various parts of airport security to access secure areas of airports in the United States. This included people sneaking past ID checkpoints and going the wrong way through one-way exit lanes.
