Among other things, US manufacturer Cirrus Aircraft is known for the fact that some of its planes, namely those from the SR series, are fitted with a ballistic parachute. This, in the event of an emergency, enables stricken aircraft to descend to the ground in a controlled manner in one piece, with the technology having been credited for saving hundreds of lives since first being tested back in 1998.
