Nearly 17 years have passed since the CRJ1000’s first flight in September 2008, with the initial deliveries following 26 months later. Yet, the variant (which seats up to 104 passengers) has never been popular. This is largely because it is too big to comply with the US scope clause, which meant that it never made it into US regional carriers’ fleets, which is crucial for gaining scale.
