Saab AB was founded in Sweden in 1937, starting life primarily in the defense industry to manufacture combat aircraft. However, by the 1970s, Saab had moved into the civilian aerospace industry and began manufacturing civilian airliners. The Saab 340 and its variants have been some of the most successful aircraft for the company by number produced, with over 450 frames across the production cycle.
