Cessna created its Citation line as early as 1972. Since then, the Wichita, Kansas-based manufacturer has delivered over 7,500 business jets. Cessna has become extremely well known in the private aviation industry for the manufacturing of the Citation line, which began with the Cessna Citation I taking its first flight on September 15, 1969. In the early days of the Citation family, the jets were designed to have great handling performance and, therefore, moved slightly slower than some competing jets. This included the larger side of the product line, including the Citation III, Citation VI, and Citation VII, which were often looked at as slower and bulkier than some competing jets.
