Traveling on a plane can be a stressful experience – lots of people sitting in a reduced space, families with young children who will at some point probably start crying, people walking down the aisle to go to the bathroom, and those stretching next to your face trying to reach for something they have left in the overhead bins. The list of unpleasant things happening during a flight can be pretty long.

It’s definitely not a type of incident that is commonly reported. Sure, smoke in the cabin – or the smell of burning is reported every now and then – as is the occasional oven/galley fire. However, water pouring from the ceiling is even more rare.However, that seems to be what happened on a United Airlines flight out of San Francisco. Headed for Tokyo, the crew turned the jet around, diverting back to SFO.
