Canadian National Railway has resumed operations near Edson, a day after two trains collided near the town, forcing the closure of the tracks.
“Train operations have resumed following the May 19 derailment that occurred near Edson,” said CN spokesperson Ashley Michnowski.
RCMP said members responded to a call on Sunday just after 7 a.m. near the corner of Highway 47 and Township Road 530. Cpl. Mathew Howell, an RCMP public information officer, said that two trains had collided at low speed, causing several cars to derail. He said that some of the cars had grain on board, while others were carrying batteries. There was no spillage, injuries or risk to the environment.
CN confirmed that, at low speed, two trains had sideswiped each other.
“The cause remains under investigation,” said Michnowski. “CN crews remain on site as cleanup activities are ongoing. There were no fires, or hazardous materials spilled. CN would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by this event and thanks local first responders for their assistance.”
The federal Transportation Safety Board has dispatched inspectors to the crash site.
