Residents around Ultimo in Sydney reported a ‘loud boom and a brilliant flash of light’ when a meteor crossed the night’s sky on April 5, 2025.
Dozens of people were left a little starstruck when a large meteor rocketed across the Sydney skyline on Saturday evening.
Residents in Shellharbour, south of Sydney, all the way north to Newcastle, in the state’s north, reported seeing a ball of light bolt across the sky about 6.30pm.
Nikki Jackson wrote on the Australian Meteor Reports Facebook page she saw the “more blue than green” light near Maroubra, while Liasa Javs was in Darlinghurst when she caught a glimpse of the “incredible” moment.
“It was traveling east to west at super speed. It had a beautiful long bright blue tail. It split in two and then vanished. I’ve spent the last hour researching fireballs and now I’m completely hooked,” Ms Javs wrote on Facebook.
