Bill Gates is one of the world’s wealthiest businessmen. He is best known as a pioneer of the microcomputer revolution that took place in the 1970s and the 1980s. Gates, along with his childhood friend Paul Allen, founded the software company Microsoft in 1975. The Seattle, Washington-native dropped out of Harvard University to found the company. Microsoft saw immediate and immense success in the late 1970s and 1980s. Because of this, the company went public in an initial public offering (IPO) in 1986. The IPO of Microsoft made Gates the youngest billionaire ever at the age of 31.
