Acronyms are commonplace in aviation nowadays, with hundreds in use daily. In an industry with such complex and specific terminology, it is logical that acronyms are widely used. Many such acronyms are widely known both in and out of the industry, such as ATC (Air Traffic Control), while others may mean something only to those in the know, such as NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions).
