Germany is famous for its airships – most notably the successful Graf Zepplin and the ill-fated Hindenburg. However, what is less known is the rigid airships in the US Navy. There were five of them, and all but one of them crashed. It may be surprising to many, but airships never fully went away as they have a number of benefits over heavier-than-air aircraft.
