Renfe Mercancias reduced losses in 2024

The Spanish state-owned rail freight operator Renfe Mercancias reduced to 32,2 million euros in 2024. This is an 11 per cent improvement compared to 2023.
“This progress has been achieved despite operating in an increasingly competitive environment, in which the company’s revenues registered a slight decrease of 3.6 per cent compared to the previous year, reaching 191,7 million euros”, Renfe said.

The rest of the Renfe group

In general, losses were reduced all across the group for the Spanish state-owned railway holding. “Specifically, the Renfe group has reduced its losses by 118,6 million euros during 2024 (…) compared to 121.5 million euros in 2023”, the company stated. The cluster’s EBIDTA grew by 59 per cent to 489.5 million euros. The best performing segment was the passenger one which achieved an after-tax profit of €5.4 million in 2024, compared to a loss of €65.0 million in 2023.
