Regarded as being one of the big three United States carriers, United Airlines can trace its roots all the way back to 1926. It was founded by American aviation pioneer Walter Varney, who was awarded one of the first contracts to deliver mail between Pasco, Washington, and Elko, Nevada, with a stopover in Boise, Idaho.
