The 2022 full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine saw the biggest war return to European soil since World War II. The Russian Air Force is easily one of the largest air forces in the world by number of aircraft. Russia has lost aircraft from just about every major category, from strategic bombers (like the Tupolev Tu-160) to Su-25 ground attack aircraft. The question is not "Has Russia lost a lot of military aircraft?" – the question is "How many?" This is a very difficult question to answer, but there is still a lot of information to work with.
