The TBM, which was originally called the SOCATA TBM and is now called the Daher TBM, began development in the early 1980s. Since then, SOCATA and Daher have both produced over 1,000 total aircraft. Originally, SOCATA produced the aircraft as a joint venture between the French general aviation manufacturer and the America-based Mooney Airplane Company. However, SOCATA became defunct in the 2010s. Daher, another France-based conglomerate in several industrial sectors, eventually purchased a managing stake in the company.
