Cargo traffic grew exponentially during the pandemic, with many passenger airlines increasing or, in some cases, launching their cargo operations. Although less than 1% of global trade is transported by air (the vast majority is moved by road, rail, and sea), air freight is often made up of perishable, high-value, and time-sensitive goods, which collectively account for around 35% of world trade value.
