The General Electric CF6 family of high-bypass turbofan engines stands out as one of the most successful widebody engines ever developed. Even though it was first developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, it remains in production for freighter aircraft. Additionally, the LM2500 variant of the engine powers most of the US Navy and US-allied and partner warships that use gas turbine propulsion. The GE CF6 powers (as an engine option or exclusively) the Boeing 747, Boeing 767, Airbus A300, Airbus A330, and the Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy strategic military transport among other aircraft.
