On March 4th, Paris' most famous international airport, Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), celebrated half a century of operations. The first terminal to open was the appropriately named Terminal 1. It is considered by employees, pilots, and passengers alike as the undisputed airport symbol with its distinctive round shape and the constellation of satellite gates. It was designed by renowned architect Paul Andrieu, who wanted to reflect a futuristic travel image.
