What Was The 1st Commercial Airplane To Break The 1,000-Sales Mark?

What was the first commercial aircraft to reach 1,000 units delivered? The answer to that question can be given in more than one way, providing more than one answer. The generally accepted answer to that question is the Boeing 727 trijet airliner. Developed in the 1960s, the 727 was considered a risky project. Boeing would need around 200 orders to break even and thought there was demand for just 250 aircraft. In the end, the 727 blew past expectations, becoming the first jet-powered passenger airliner to attract more than 1,000 orders.
