Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), a major commercial airport on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois, is located around 12 miles from the city’s Loop business district. It is geographically divided between the communities of Clearing and Garfield Ridge. The facility, which was established in 1927, served as the city’s principal airport until the opening of Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in 1944.
