American planemaker Boeing has been a leading manufacturer of jet-powered commercial aircraft since the middle of the 20th century. While the US-based firm was not the first to put a jetliner in the skies, having been beaten by the likes of the De Havilland Comet and the Tupolev Tu-104, it has been amongst the most successful to do so. Today, it dominates the industry alongside Europe’s Airbus.
