In the wake of the tragedy of American Airlines Flight 5342, an accident involving a regional jet flying from Wichita, Kansas, to Reagan National Airport (DCA) that collided with a Black Hawk helicopter operated by the United States Army, increased attention has been placed on safety standards in regional aviation. Although nothing related to the aircraft being a regional jet has been attributed as a cause of the incident, there has undoubtedly been heightened scrutiny surrounding regional operations.
