The Antonov airliner, the world’s heaviest aircraft, was destroyed during the opening days of the Ukraine War at Antonov Airport in northwestern Kyiv in February 2022.
The station will serve Keilor East and the Airport West precinct, and is one of the two new stations planned for the line, the other being at Melbourne Airport itself. It has a potential catchment of more than 150,000 Moonee Valley residents.
This is the first time group boarding has been used by an Australian domestic carrier, and follows a “series of successful trials” in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, which Qantas says demonstrated a positive effect on on-time performance.
