Horror as helicopter crashes into plane at Reagan Washington National Airport in Virginia

A massive rescue operation is underway after a US Army Blackhawk (H-60) helicopter collided with passenger aircraft near Washington on Wednesday.

The crash occurred at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, near Washington DC, halting all flights.

The DC Fire and EMS Department confirmed on X that a small aircraft went down in the Potomac River vicinity near Reagan National Airport, adding that fireboats were on the scene.

Webcam from the Washington DC’s Kennedy Center appeared to capture a mid-air explosion after a helicopter and a plane collided.

  1. The ATC feed now available has the approach controller desperately calling to arounds for inbound aircraft. Would have gotten quite messy in the area and arrivals were stopped and sent to the alternate.
