With the last of the Boeing 747 Jumbo jets rolling off the production line in 2023 and the final Airbus A380 delivered in 2021, the age of the commercial quadjet was meant to be over (production of the quad-engined A340 ended in 2012). However, as fate would have it, there appears there will be a wide-body commercial jet epilogue with sanctioned Russia putting its old Ilyushin Il-96 back into production. Separately, Airbus hasn’t ruled out the option of putting the A380 back into production (although the chances of this seem low).
