Greenland’s Air Network: Examined

Greenland (along with the lesser-known Faroe Islands) is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. The massive island has minimal infrastructure—e.g., there are no roads connecting the settlements in Greenland. This means that the only way to get between the isolated settlements is by flying (or by taking a boat or crossing over the ice). So what are Greenland’s flight connections to the outside world and internally across the island? This article will not include civilian helicopters or military flights; both the US (including the US Space Force) and Denmark maintain a military presence on the island. Space Force Base Pittufik (formerly Thule Air Force Base) is one of the most remote US air bases.
