50 Years Ago: Qantas’ Boeing 747s Help Evacuate Darwin Residents After Cyclone Tracy

This Christmas Day marked the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy, a destructive cyclone that battered the Tiwi Islands and Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. With many scrambling for shelter, 66 people lost their lives. Qantas, Australia’s flag carrier, played an instrumental part in evacuating thousands of affected residents following the aftermath of the cyclone.
