The one-term US President Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter Jr.) has passed away and has become the oldest US president in history, living until 100. He served as the 39th President of the United States, beating the incumbent president, Gerald Ford, in 1976. Jimmy Carter is remembered for many things, including pardoning all Vietnam War draft evaders on his second day in office. He returned the Panama Canal to Panama but lost the 1980 election in a landslide to Ronald Reagan. In his term in office, Carter had a significant influence on NASA. Perhaps his greatest impact on the aviation industry was signing the Airline Deregulation Act into law in 1978.
