The University of Mississippi, which is commonly referred to as Ole Miss, is a public research university based in Oxford, Mississippi. The university was first chartered by the Mississippi Legislature in February 1844, and after it opened in 1848, it admitted just 80 students. Since then, it has grown to become the state’s largest university by enrollment. Currently, the school enrolls approximately 21,000 students, including nearly 15,000 undergraduate students and just over 3,000 students enrolled in one of the university’s graduate schools.
