Approximately 5.9 million people flew between the US and India in the year to July 2024, equivalent to more than 8,000 passengers daily each way. These figures are based on examining booking data available to me on a subscription basis.

Heading into 2026, Air India continues to operate an incredibly diverse fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft with narrowbodies and widebodies from the European planemaker, and widebodies from the American planemaker. There are 187 aircraft in the mainline fleet with another 100-plus additional jets with regional subsidiary Air India Express. The mainline fleet has grown significantly since our last fleet video on Air India, largely thanks to the acquisition of Vistara and the absorption of its fleet into Air India’s operations.
