It was November 14, 1970. Southern Airways Flight 932 was preparing for a very special mission. The Douglas DC-9 departed Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport at 15:48 and ferried to Kinston Regional Jetport, North Carolina, arriving at 16:42 without event. The aircraft was refueled, and the 70 passengers boarded. There were 37 members of the Marshall University ‘Thundering Herd’ Football Team, eight coaches, and 25 supporters. They were bound for home, Tri-State Airport, Huntington, West Virginia.
