When Los Angeles was awarded the 2028 Olympics in 2017, then-mayor Eric Garcetti knew that billions of dollars needed to be spent to prepare the country’s second-most populous city airport. Besides the venues needed for the events, of considerable concern was getting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) overhauled so that it could handle an influx of visitors from around the world.
